Safety Tips Before You Hit the Water
Before heading out for your next diving, fishing, or boating trip, it's essential to take a few simple safety precautions. The ocean is beautiful, but it can also be unpredictable — and preparation can make all the difference.
1. Don’t Dive Alone
The ocean is unpredictable — diving alone increases the risk dramatically. Always go with a buddy or inform someone about your plans. Safety is stronger in numbers.
2. Check the Weather
Always check the marine forecast before you go. Avoid heading out if there are strong winds, high waves, or poor visibility.
3. Wear the Right Gear
Make sure your wetsuit fits well and is appropriate for the water temperature. Don’t forget essentials like a life jacket, fins, gloves, and a dive computer or watch.
4. Tell Someone Your Plan
Always let a friend or family member know where you're going and when you plan to return — especially if you're going out alone.
5. Inspect Your Equipment
Check your gear in advance. Whether it’s your fishing rod, mask, or oxygen tank — a quick inspection can prevent big problems later.
6. Stay Hydrated and Rested
Fatigue and dehydration can affect your judgment. Drink water and rest well before your trip.
7. Know Your Limits
Don’t push your physical limits. Stay close to shore if you’re a beginner, and never dive or fish in unfamiliar waters without proper guidance.
